Limiting Your Speed in Bermuda
October 31st, 2008

Jeremy Clarkson once said: “Speed is useful. Speed means we can get where we’re going quicker, which means we can see more, do more and learn more. Speed makes us cleverer. Speed means we can expand our horizons. It means we can explore strange new worlds and new civilizations, even Bermuda! This gives us a better understanding of the world and its people, and that makes us more tolerant. Speed brings peace. Most of all, though, speed is fun. Speed then is both the face of civilization and the core of our inner primeval being. Speed is everything.”

According to the article “The Speed Limit in Bermuda” at www.limeyinbermuda.com last December 5, 2004, Limey said he criticized Dr. Joseph Froncioni, Chairman of the Road Safety Council, in a recent post and letter to the Editor for advocating politically incompatible positions on the speed limit and speed camera use. The response of Dr. Froncioni was also included in the article.

We have all been subjected to dangerous driving that force us to take evasive action. Irresponsibility, lack of self-discipline, lack of consideration, lack of accountability, and a sense of entitlement all contribute to the turmoil on our roadways. To live in a country where every driver is illegally permitted to break the speed limit, without punishment, encourages an attitude of entitlement to break other laws and limits. Basically, you can have all the rules you want, but they are ineffective if the authorities are unable or unwilling to enforce them.

I believe that solutions such as a points system together with severer penalties and increased fines can help eliminate this problem. I also feel that confiscation of vehicles in certain cases will become a valuable deterrent. Another novel suggestion is to ban overtaking completely! This will certainly reduce accidents immediately and slow traffic down to the slowest driver. Only a drastic solution such as these can make a real difference. These are all a part of the solution but enforcement is perhaps more important.

Remember that the road belongs to all of us. Drivers out there must realize one thing – you’re not on a race track! The roads are for everyone and their lives are in your hands. You have the far greater burden of responsibility because you’re the one with the dangerous weapon. You live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world so, slow down, smell the roses, and drive responsibly.

Be an advanced motorist from now on!

Travel Journals – Preserve Your Travel Experiences
October 29th, 2008

Traveling is a great way to escape the rat race and experience new cultures and places. Alas, your experiences can fade with time. The best way to prevent this is to keep a travel journal for your trips.

Travel Journals

Take a minute to give some consideration to your most recent trip. What sticks out in your mind? Now think about the first trip you ever took. Undoubtedly, you remember few things about the trip. The experiences you’ve forgotten are lost to time. If you had kept a journal, this wouldn’t be the case.

There are famous instances of people keeping journals throughout time. Of course, Anne Frank’s Diary is the best example. In her diary, Anne kept a running commentary of the two years her family spent hiding from the Nazis. While your travels will hopefully be more lighthearted, keeping a journal will let you remember them as the years pass.

A good travel journal combines a number of characteristics. First, it should be compact so you don’t have to take up unnecessary space for other things. Second, it should have a case to protect it from rain, spills and so on. Third, the journal should contain blank areas to write your notes. Fourth, the journal should contain cue spaces to remind you to keep notes on specific things. Cues should include:

1. Who you traveled with,

2. Where you stayed and if you enjoyed it,

3. Who you met and contact information for them,

4. Places to eat, and

5. Things to see and if you would visit again,

At the end of the trip, you should be able to get the following from your journal:

1. Contact information for other travelers and people you met,

2. Enough detail to provide you with a guide if you travel to the location a second time.

3. Memories to reflect upon years later, and

4. Something to give you children and grandchildren later in life.

To get the most out of your travel journal, you should spend a few minutes writing in it every day. Every day of a trip brings new experiences even if you’re just sitting on a train or bus. If you get writers block, you can note whom you met, what you saw, etc.

Traveling is a chance to experience new things and meet new people. Don’t lose these experiences to time.

Have new technologies improved solo business travels?
October 29th, 2008

In the last 10 to 20 years, advance in technology has transformed many aspects of business travel; from the way we book our hotel rooms to staying in touch with relatives left at home.
However it seems that it has not changed one aspect of it: the feeling of loneliness faced by a majority of business people while travelling and in particular, while dining and drinking in the evening at hotels.

The latest Barclaycard Business Travel Survey (www.barclaycard.co.uk) shows that, whereas 95% of businessmen and women travel solo, 45% of them have felt lonely during their business trips.
Technology has only help to reduce the time spent travelling. The survey tells us that nights way from home have decreased to 4.1 nights per month from 4.4 last year. Technology such as video-conferencing has reduced the need for face-to-face meetings. It has not made it easier staying alone in far away cities.
Women seem to be even more affected by the negative aspects of solo travel. Up to 61% of women have said feeling uncomfortable drinking at bars on their own and 34% didn’t like dining on their own.
So are business travellers doomed to feel lonely, depressed or uncomfortable when away from home? Well, there are some tips one can follow to try improve this situation:
Try to talk to people who are waiting to be seated at the restaurant. If they are alone, they will probably be very happy to share their table with you, and enjoy a much more relaxed evening.
Try to arrange to meet with somebody you know in town, or somebody you have met the same day at work or elsewhere.
Ask for a table near a people-watching window. If you eat alone, at least you can look at what is going on outside.
Go to the restaurant early. Very often, restaurants have a more romantic setting at later times, something you want to avoid if you are alone!
Finally use networking clubs to contact other people who live locally. You may then meet with them (important: always do so in a public place)

New technologies have improved the way we can plan and organise business travels. However, when it comes to it, only old-fashioned tips will make your solo journeys a better experience.

Why Crystal from Tromelin Island Goes to Chamonix
October 28th, 2008

Chamonix Haute Savoie France is a unique town with the impressive Mont Blanc and majestic glaciers. Each of us love to go walking or even sightseeing. I invariably get a flight from Sherman Oaks and stay at a Chamonix self catered chalet during my stay.

We previously visited La Quinta Inn Bossier City unfortunately it sometimes didn’t meet the standards of its description: The La Quinta Bossier City is conveniently accessible to I-20, approximately a mile from Harrah’s Casino and nine miles from Shreveport Regional Airport. Local attractions include Boomtown Casino, Isle of Capri Casino, Riverwalk, and Louisiana State University.Hotel amenities include free high-speed Internet access, complimentary continental breakfast, free local telephone calls, and free parking. Guests may also enjoy the seasonal outdoor heated pool.Guest rooms feature telephones, dataports, cable TVs, hairdryers, irons, ironing boards, voicemail, coffeemakers, and AM/FM alarm clock radios.

On the other hand in Chamonix Mont Blanc the luxury catered chalet is invariably fine. Also eating out in our groups favorite hotel restaurant, Antonios Tex Mex, munching Chicken ala Maria is a memorable experience. Chamonix Mont Blanc France is a large enough village to guarantee that there is plenty for the tourist to do. With a beauty salon and a strip of bars, Chamonix provides a choice of walking, alpine charm and shopping which barely any resorts can hope to rival.

Discover Performance Coaching to See Eye-opening Results
October 27th, 2008

Coaching is a term that has become increasingly used over the last 5 years. The term success coaching first became trendy in the United States of America where, together with Neuro Linguistic Programming, it became part of a new outstanding wave of highly proactive therapy techniques.

In many ways both Success Coaching and Neuro Linguistic Programming are a reaction against certain aspects of the person-centred therapy movement, in particular Human-Centred Counselling. A problem of the humanistic approach is that it is greatly reactive and not awfully proactive. Although all this works terrific with some people, with other people long periods of no exit in sight or low return for time and effort occur. Success coaching and NLP are both human-centred therapy in stance, focusing on improving a clients well-being rather than delving into the depths of childhood, as in traditional therapy. Their emphasis is, however, deliberately proactive and their to resolve your problems. Use Easily Achieve to gain success with a life coach.

Success coaching is not about preaching to the coaching client what to do. This is a common misconception. Some performance coaches are fairly successful in their business careers and then make the change to lifestyle coaching, thinking that they will only be required to share their pearls of eye-opening business wisdom with the customer. Sharing pearls of wisdom is more like mentoring a person in a specific environment. Personal coaching is instead about life as a collective.

Cologne Germany — Historical Facts of the First of German C
October 24th, 2008

Do you know of the first given name of the oldest German city? Do you know how long it took to build its Cathedral? Do you further know what its scariest natural disaster is? Read on…

Cologne Germany (Kln) is the oldest so the first German city. When it became city in 50 A.D., it bore the name Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium (CCAA) because of the Roman Empress Agrippina.

Cologne is catholic and had a bishop as early as 313. In 785, it became the seat of an archbishop. The Archbishop of Cologne was one of the seven Electors of the Holy Roman Empire. He ruled a large area as a secular lord in the Middle Ages, but in 1288, he was defeated by the Cologne citizens and forced to move to Bonn.

Cologne Germany was a member of the Hanseatic League. It became a free city officially by 1475, but lost its free status and regained its archbishopric during the French period. In 1815, at the Congress of Vienna, it became part of the Prussian kingdom.

The start of building of Cologne Cathedral was in 1248, abandoned in the mid-1500s, and finished in 1880. That took 632 years; think about that… Just visit http://www.smart-travel-germany.com/cologne-cathedral.html for a side step to the history of Cologne Cathedral.

During the 19th and 20th century, Cologne incorporated numerous surrounding towns, so that it had a population of 600,000 inhabitants by the time of World War 1.

In World War 2, Cologne Germany was repeatedly bombed. The Cologne Cathedral received 14 hits by aerial bombs, but luckily didn’t collapse. When the city was in ruins — see picture at http://www.smart-travel-germany.com/cologne.html — it took some time to rebuild it, but afterwards its buildings and population grew again. So since 1975, the population of Cologne Germany always lays around 1 million inhabitants.

So much the Rhine of the city brought prosperity and quality of life, so feared is its flood. The worst flood ever registered occurred in February 1784. After an extremely long and cold winter the temperature jumped deep down. The Rhine river had frozen over and the thaw as well as the breaking open ice provided firmly for a record water level of 13,55 m. That was ten meters above the normal level!

The tides, on which heavy ice floes floated, devastated far parts of the development of the banks and all ships. 65 people died. The district Mlheim on the right Rhine side was completely destroyed.

In more recent time, a flood protection concept plans the establishment of sheet pile walls. That should protect old town up to a level of 10 meters against inundations. Still, old town consists of a magnet for floods.

Despite of this, Cologne is well-known as the Fun City of all German cities. You go into a tavern and do not know anybody, and you go out with a lot of friends. It’s very easy to come in contact with Cologne people. In February, during Cologne Carnival, the whole Rhine land celebrates for at least six days — with tons of sweets and kisses.

Cheap Airline Tickets! With Internet Access, The Skies Th
October 24th, 2008

With easy access to the Internet, the convenience of finding cheap airline tickets is just a few clicks away. As more airline inventory becomes available directly to the public through the World Wide Web, cheap flights are being purchased in record numbers, and nearly everyone hunting for fantastic low cost airline tickets are finding better deals online than at their local travel agency!

If you happen to be wondering why your local travel agency seems to have a hard time competing with all the cheap tickets offered by online travel suppliers, well its a matter of volume. The airlines pass on great savings to the Internet based suppliers and in turn they forward these savings on to you for not going through a travel agent.

Advantages of booking cheap travel online vs. Retail Travel Agencies

So what are the advantages of booking cheap air on line over visiting your local travel establishment? It’s quite simple, with technology and the easy access to home and office computers, convenience would be top on the list.

When you go directly to the airline discount suppliers web site, they provide you immediate access to their airfare inventory, and you’re tapped into each airlines seat availability without delay. You can view all the airline airfares and current pricing for airline companies such as American, United, Continental, and Northwest all conveniently at one time! Unfortunately your travel professional would have to go to each carriers web site individually, and search for the best online fares.

For most travel agencies it’s very time consuming, and they don’t make a lot of commission from booking airfare on the Internet for their clients. Many travel counselors get so backlogged that a lot of times they will put your search on hold, and with hot prices online selling out so quickly, In most cases it’s too late to get the deals you want by the time they get back to you that day.

Another advantage is when you complete your reservation over the Internet, you will receive your departure information, destination details, and all your required flight terms instantly emailed to you. When you complete the purchase of your tickets online, because it’s all electronically processed, you don’t have to worry about leaving your house to fight traffic to pick up physical paper tickets. Now you might say that your agency provides this service as well, and your right they do, but normally for a fee that ranges between $35 – $70 dollars for each booking!

Some reputable companies that offer discount airfare are Orbitz and Expedia! They’re known to be the largest suppliers of airline destinations in domestic and worldwide flights. With the sheer volume they offer, you will easily find great airline discount prices, and a wide variety of excellent itineraries.
