You have optimised your website and attracted a large number of inbound links by one means or another. The results of this are that your site now appears on the first page of the top three search engines, Google, MSN and Yahoo, for your chosen keywords or phrases. You have cracked it! Now you are getting hundreds of visitors a day to your website. Unfortunately very few are staying to browse your site and even fewer are purchasing your products or enquiring after the services you offer.

You must look closely at your site to find the reason behind this if you wish to improve your conversion rates. There are two immediate actions you can take. Have you optimised your site for the search engines or your visitors? You should always optimise your site for your visitors as they will provide you with your income not the search engines. The search engines are simply a means to an ends.

It is better to have twenty visitors to your site 15 of whom purchase a product or service than it is to have 500 of whom only 5 make a purchase. When developing your site keep in mind your potential customers and put text into the site that they will appreciate, like and find informative. Never write your copy with the search engines in mind and those omnipotent algorithms. Algorithms do not make enquiries or purchases people do.

If your copy is attractive and readable and encourages real people to contact you or buy a product then it is highly likely to be equally attractive to the search engines. When writing your copy you should not be trying to ’sell’ your product or service with blatant over the top advertising. Be more subtle. You are fulfilling a wish or a need or solving a problem so be informative. People have carried out a specific search so the need is already there you have to now give them the information they need to convince them to purchase of you. So as always the content is the key to making sales as well as attracting the attention of the search engines.

You must work hard at getting this content right. The second line of investigation is to analyse your sites visitor statistics carefully Look at each visitor and how they arrived at your site. That is what search terms did they use? What page did they land on? What pages did they navigate through? What page did they exit on? What area of the World or country did they come from? If they made no enquiry or purchase, look at their search phrase, and where on your site they went, and attempt to calculate why they left without making that enquiry or purchase. Was it because their search was not appropriate for ypour actual product or service? Do you not perhaps provide your service to their particular area? Did they miss or could not find exactly what they wanted on your site because of badly designed navigation paths? Or is it perhaps because the text is simply not up to standard?

If you think it is a structural problem then you can alter this so that people find it easier to navigate to places on the site that they actually want. It may also be a matter of your content so you can change this.

By constantly monitoring your site’s statistics you can dramatically increase your conversion rates, that is, convert more of your visitors into paying customers. Finally do keep note of what you do so that you can accurately monitor the changes you make to find out if and by how much they are making a difference.

Laurie was upset. On her face, frustration hovered under brimming eyes, her hands waving in distress. I asked her what was wrong. She cleared her throat and said, “JoAnne. I have to tell her that I don’t want to be her friend anymore – but I can’t do it.”

JoAnne was Laurie’s constant companion, ever since they met at a friend’s house two years ago. They shopped the stores together, had coffee together and talked for hours on the telephone. But JoAnne hardly ever offered the cost of a tank of gas much less something for the insurance and upkeep for Laurie’s car and ignored Laurie’ birthday without even a token “Happy Birthday”. It wasn’t poverty that prompted JoAnne’s frugality, since she had hundreds of thousands of unused dollars in her bank.

Laurie on the other hand always used her own car, paid for the lunches, and took JoAnne to her doctor and dentist appointments. Only a perfunctory “Thanks” was offered in return. The girls always treated JoAnne to a nice lunch at a fancy hotel on her birthday. JoAnne was once overheard as referring to Laurie as “Just my driver”.

JoAnne only thought of JoAnne and this bothered Laurie greatly. One day JoAnne asked Laurie to act as driver for some out-of-town guests JoAnne was to entertain. Laurie was to pick up the guest, show them the sights during the day, then bring them to a fancy restaurant where JoAnne would meet them to celebrate. Laurie was of course invited. When Laurie got home, there was a message on the tape that JoAnne’s daughter (the one who didn’t want to use her car to sight see) decided to come to the party and would Laurie mind not going? Laurie was hurt and disappointed. Laurie was uninvited.

Another episode further defined JoAnne’s attitude. Once when Laurie’s car was in the shop, it was suggested by JoAnne’s husband that they use their car for the day’s shopping. Before JoAnne could stop herself, there came a look of finality on her face as she said. That! is out of the question!.”

Observing that this cavalier behavior was seriously affecting Laurie’s happiness, my advice to Laurie was to taper off seeing and talking to JoAnne, aiming for a severing of their relationship. But Laurie could never hurt anyone’s feelings that way, no matter how deserved. It also made her sad to think of losing a friend.

Finally I convinced Laurie to install a caller ID. on her phone and not answer the usual nine AM call to pick her up for shopping. Soon thereafter, JoAnne planned a three week trip abroad, inviting Laurie to come along to help with the luggage and chores. Laurie said that she couldn’t go at that time. On her return, Laurie knew that JoAnne must finally know the truth, that their friendship was over. Still devastated, Laurie could never quite find the courage to tell JoAnne the reason for ending their friendship. It would hurt JoAnne’s feelings too much.

– Anti Cheat Mechanisms – to ensure that a real person is viewing your web site most traffic exchanges employ anti-cheating mechanisms. This usually means that instead of clicking a “Next Site” button you have to click on a specific icon such as a number, letter or picture from a selection, before you move on to the next site. If you fail this test repeatedly, your account will be terminated automatically, so pay attention!

– Referrals – this is the fastest way to build up your credits. Most traffic exchanges provide you with referral pages and banners. You can use these to recruit yourself a downline. When someone signs up from your promotional web page or banner they are placed in your downline. This can earn you an immediate bonus plus a percentage of your downline credits, for example you get one credit for every 10 sites they surf.

During the design phase of some metal work projects you will be faced with the question of how you should tackle a project, some projects have a fine line between the decision of whether you should fabricate from steel or sheet metal, or to cast metal in a sand mould.

It is possible that you already may have had a project where you cannot decide between making a complex pattern to sand cast the project. Or to leave the foundry equipment in the corner, and attempt to fabricate the component from steel or sheet metal.

Now, once you learn the tricks and techniques of sand casting, you are
normally hell-bent on casting everything in sight. But have you ever thought that the one off part or project you are about to embark on may be produced much quicker through fabrication, than it is to make up a new pattern, then go through the entire foundry processes of: Making of patterns, Making Sand Moulds – Charge & melt a crucible of metal, and then pour the molten metal.

There’s often been times in the workshop where the latter, (to fabricate)
has been the most economical, and the quickest way to produce an item in steel, instead of cast aluminium or bronze. One of the major problems with most hobby casters, is the lack of machine tools & equipment to carry out proper fabrication operations.

Now, there’s no need to feel as though you are an inadequate metal
worker just because you do not possess general workshop fabrication
skills or equipment, because you may never have had the opportunity to learn them, but with a little guidance and proper instruction, it is not that
hard to learn how to operate the following machines.

Bench or Pedestal Drill: Equipped with drill table vice, plus a good set of high-speed steel drills.

Collection Of General Workshop Tools: The usual workshop hand tools, engineers hammer, hacksaw, various grades of files, center punches, engineers rulers, vernier callipers, etc, etc.

Enrol in some night classes; to learn welding, machining or whatever

worth of gear sitting idle in many of these colleges, so make some
Inquiries, enrol, and get to use some of the gear bought, and installed
by you’re hard earned taxes.

“Company’s coming and my place doesn’t look right…”

You know how it goes, you have visitors coming tonight. You’ve cleaned every room in the house (well, maybe not the bedroom). You’ve planned the menu, and…it’s just not quite right. Perhaps you’ve been hankering for a change or maybe it strikes you out of the air, the room needs Something, but what?

Here’s five fast tips for when that re-decorating demon strikes and you haven’t the budget or time to do much.

You can likely do all of these ideas for significantly less than $50, but because they are simple, I’ll explain along the way what makes the difference.

1)Fresh Flowers

You don’t need a $50 bouquet to make a room, but a stale look will get an instant boost with a bit of living, breathing, greenery. Consider a $20 tropical, large enough to fill in an empty corner, and spend another $20 on a colorful bunch of fresh cut flowers (if you shop well, you can even get the vase). This will give your room instant punch!

2)Bowl of Fruit & Table Cloth

If you’re at the market anyway, don’t overlook the zest and color that a large bowl of fresh fruit lends to the kitchen, dining room, or even the coffee table. Great look that works well in all decors; fill a pottery dish with a variety, or a tall glass vase with a single fruit (ie: lemons or limes) or even line up a row of green apples along the coffee or dining table for a contemporary feel. And since fruit is inexpensive, give yourself a shot of change by selecting a new table linen in the trendiest color of the season to give your room a real lift or invest in a crisp white or cream cloth for a classic look.

3)Baskets

You don’t have to be a country girl (or guy) to appreciate the cozy look of baskets. Even the most modern room can benefit from a bit of wood or rattan. But the main purpose here is to hide clutter. You’ll feel so refreshed if you add a few baskets to fill with magazines, toys or hobby material. It’s the easiest way to contain the everyday clutter that you can’t stow away. And clearing space is always a good look!

4)Throw Cushions

I’d bet you could find two throw cushions for less than $50, so if you do, add a throw blanket as well. Cheap and shamefully easy, this is the way to go if you’re ready to make more of a statement. Great opportunity to bring some contrast into a dull room, consider light pillows for a dark room, dark pillows for a light one, and absolutely try adding a trendy color to a neutral room. And at this price, you can change it next season!

5)Paint

Admittedly for the more ambitious, this is a fantastic way to create a stunning look in little time. However, this is an article on FAST ideas, so let’s not tackle the whole room right now. If company’s coming this weekend, try a new look by painting a feature wall a stunning but complementary color (ie: the fireplace wall, that blank wall behind the couch…you get the idea.) Or even tape off a smaller section (this is called color blocking) to focus attention on a collection of pictures, or behind a mirror, or around the fireplace.
